It's possible to preview your recordings while in a training session. We don't recommend doing this, however, so the setting is disabled by default.

Why we don't let you preview recordings in-session by default

Above all, Glossika sessions are about flow.

We think that most learners will seriously benefit from simply spending more time directly engaging with their target language, so we set Glossika up to get you through as many unique sentences in your target language as efficiently as possible.

You might be tempted to stop and redo a sentence that you stumble over, but with the way Glossika is set up, this isn't necessary.

Any sentence you learn today, you'll review it ~4 more times this week and over a dozen times throughout the upcoming year. Today's tongue twister will be rolling effortlessly out of your mouth before you know it.

How we recommend you review your recordings

  • Before you can comfortably recite a particular sentence

Simply do your best, whatever that means right now, and focus on getting through the reps Glossika has assigned you in a particular session. You'll struggle with some sentences, and that's OK.

Trust that your best will keep getting better as you work through more and more sentences.

It will.

  • After you can comfortably recite a particular sentence

Our brain is used to the sounds of our native language, and this "bias" causes us to hear some sounds inaccurately. You might not notice intonation (the melody of a sentence) at all, for example, or your brain might incorrectly conclude that "new sound in the target language" is actually "somewhat similar sound in the native language."

Once you feel comfortable saying a particular sentence, we strongly recommend that you occasionally set some time aside to go to your collection list and compare your recording versus the native speaker's recording. This immediate feedback on how you actually sound is an important part of improving your accent.

Treat these "pronunciation deep dives" as a separate activity. When you are in a session, you should still be focusing on simply getting through the session as well as you can in one try.

[Website] How to preview recordings while in-session

1. From your home dashboard, click "Learn New Items" or "Review"

2. From within a training session, click the "settings" icon located in the top-right corner of your screen

3. Scroll to the bottom of the in-session settings menu and flip the recording "switch" — if the function is enabled, it should be green in color

4. Set "preview recordings" to auto or manual, depending on whether you'd like to review every single recording you make in session or to only review specific recordings

5. If you select manual, you will be prompted to review each recording before moving on to the next sentence.

- Click the green ► icon to review your recording
- Click "Record again" to re-do a recording
- Click "Submit" to upload your recording and move on to the next sentence

6. If you select auto, your recording will automatically playback once, and then Glossika will automatically move on to the next sentence (unless you click "Record again") — no clicks are necessary
